The "Evangelical Lutheran Hymn-book: Abridged edition" was published in 1912 as the first official English-language hymnal of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. This historic collection marked a pivotal transition from German to English worship for the denomination. Compiled by Professor August Crull and initially containing 543 hymns, it became affectionately known as the "old green hymnal" for its distinctive binding. The work served congregations until 1941, bridging traditional Lutheran worship with America's English-speaking
communities. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
