"Historia del famoso predicador Fray Gerundio de Campazas, alias Zotes (2 de 2)" by José Francisco de Isla is a satirical novel published in 1758. The work ridicules the ornate, meaningless preaching style popular in eighteenth-century Spain. Fray Gerundio, distinguished by his terrible taste and love of pretentious phrases, navigates his career alongside his grotesque teacher Fray Blas and his wise friend Fray Prudencio. Through vivid descriptions of people, towns, and customs,
the novel documents Spanish life while mocking the degenerating excesses of baroque oratory. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
