"A Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents. Volume 3, part 2" is part of an eleven-volume series copyrighted in 1897 by James D. Richardson. This volume contains official presidential proclamations, special messages, and inauguration speeches. Volume 3 specifically completes Andrew Jackson's presidency and covers Martin Van Buren's term between 1837 and 1841. The compilation became central to a political controversy over private copyright of public documents, ultimately leading to
comprehensive prohibition on copyrighting federal government works. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
